Located just outside of Portland in North Plains, OR, Golden Saffron Co. was founded and hand cultivated in 2018 by visionary Tanya Golden. Tanya has over 20 years experience working as an herbalist and 3rd generation sustainable agriculture farmer, while taking pride in and staying connected to her indigenous ancestry. From laying the foundations of the greenhouses and crop beds to hand picking each stem with love, Tanya brings a conscious joy and passion to her work and community offerings.
High quality saffron spice and petals are now available directly from the Pacific Northwest farmed source at Golden Saffron Co.
Golden Saffron Co. is proud and excited to be among the first farms in North America to offer local and sustainable saffron direct to consumers and retailers. Derived from the flower of Crocus sativus, commonly known as the “saffron crocus”, saffron threads are plucked from the three tiny stigmas in the center of the flower and dried for use as a precious spice.
Saffron is known for it’s unique taste, hay-like fragrance, and slight metallic notes and has been used as a food seasoning, fragrance, dye, and traditional medicine for more than 3,000 years. Widely known in worldwide cuisines, saffron is native to Southwest Asia, but was first cultivated in Greece while Iran currently maintains 90% of global production.
